About Our Barley
ARM River Farming Co. Ltd. produces high-quality malting and feed barley varieties that meet the exacting standards of brewers, distillers, and livestock producers. Our barley is cultivated using sustainable farming methods that ensure optimal grain development and consistent quality.
We grow both two-row and six-row barley varieties, each selected for specific end-use applications. Our two-row varieties are particularly prized by craft brewers and maltsters for their uniform kernel size and excellent enzyme potential, while our six-row varieties excel in feed applications.
Saskatchewan's climate provides ideal growing conditions for barley, with cool nights and warm days that promote excellent starch development and kernel plumpness. Our precision farming techniques ensure that each crop receives optimal nutrition and care throughout the growing season.

From Seed to Harvest
Spring Seeding (April-May): We plant certified seed varieties specifically selected for malting or feed quality. Seeding rates and depth are carefully controlled to ensure uniform stands and optimal tillering.
Growing Season (June-July): Throughout the growing season, we monitor crop development and apply precision nutrient management to achieve target protein levels. Nitrogen timing is critical for malting barley to maintain low protein content.
Maturation (Late July-August): As the barley matures, we conduct regular field assessments to monitor kernel development and plumpness. This stage is crucial for achieving the uniform kernel size required for malting.
Harvest (August): Barley is typically the first crop we harvest. Timing is critical to maintain grain quality and germination viability. We use modern equipment to minimize kernel damage and preserve malting characteristics.
Two-Row Malting Barley
Our two-row varieties are specifically grown for the malting industry. These varieties feature uniform kernel size, excellent enzyme potential, and low protein content - perfect for craft brewing and premium malt production. Two-row barley produces a cleaner, more refined malt flavor profile.
Six-Row Feed Barley
Six-row barley varieties are grown primarily for livestock feed applications. These varieties offer higher protein content and excellent nutritional value for cattle, hogs, and poultry. Six-row barley is also used in some brewing applications where higher enzyme levels are desired.
Perfect For:
- Craft brewing and microbreweries
- Commercial malting operations
- Whiskey and spirits distilling
- Livestock feed (cattle, hogs, poultry)
- Food products (barley flour, pearled barley)
- Export markets requiring premium barley
